'Weihnachten' and 'Adventszeit' both belong to the period in December and are therefore easily confused. 'Weihnachten' means the holiday itself, especially the holidays on December 24, 25, and 26, or the time directly around them. 'Adventszeit' means the weeks before, when people prepare for Christmas. If you are talking about presents, Christmas Eve, or the holidays, 'Weihnachten' fits. If you are talking about candles, Advent calendars, or preparing before the holiday, 'Adventszeit' fits better.
