Information we use

  • Accounts and learning: your email, login details, optional profile information, preferences, saved words, reviews, progress, and private content ratings. We use these to provide the service you request. An avatar you upload is publicly accessible.
  • Guest learning: a temporary account identifier and learning progress, so you can save words and review before registration. This data can be moved to an account when you sign in.
  • Support and feedback: your message, optional email address, and relevant page or content details, so we can respond and improve the service.
  • Security and delivery: IP address, browser and request information, timestamps, and service logs, as needed to deliver Membel and prevent abuse.
  • Basic page measurement: the page path without its query or fragment, timestamps, approximate page duration and scroll depth, and limited browser and request information. This uses no analytics cookie, account identifier, persistent browser identifier, or stored browsing history. Necessary browser storage may hold only the privacy state that keeps this measurement cookieless. The analytics provider derives a daily rotating value from request information to count aggregate page use; it cannot use that value to recognize the same browser on another day.
  • Optional detailed analytics: with your consent, a persistent random or pseudonymous account identifier, pages visited, feature use, learning actions, device and performance information, and interactions with public learning pages. Optional session replay may also be enabled on non-sensitive pages. Your name, email, passwords, and form entries are not included.

Account data is processed to provide the service. Security and basic aggregate page measurement rely on our legitimate interests in operating and improving a reliable service. Optional detailed analytics and session replay rely on your consent. You may use Membel without optional detailed analytics.

Service providers

We share necessary information with providers that support hosting and security, service emails, basic and optional analytics, and embedded videos. Embedded-video providers receive technical request information when a thumbnail is shown or a video is played.

Where information is processed outside the European Economic Area, we use an adequacy decision or approved contractual safeguards.

Storage and retention

Necessary browser storage keeps you signed in, saves preferences and progress, and remembers your privacy choice and cookieless analytics state. Basic page measurement stores no analytics identity or browsing history. Optional detailed analytics storage is used only after consent.

  • When you schedule deletion of a registered account, normal account access stops immediately. You have 30 calendar days to sign in only to view the scheduled date or explicitly cancel. If you do not cancel before deletion begins, we erase the account and associated learning data, avatar, and identified analytics data. Signing in alone does not cancel deletion.
  • Empty guest accounts are deleted after 7 days; inactive guest accounts after 180 days.
  • Feedback is kept only as long as needed to handle reports and improve Membel.
  • Basic and optional analytics data is kept only as long as needed to understand and improve the service.
  • Security records are kept only as long as needed for security, legal claims, or legal duties.

Encrypted backups follow their normal protected retention cycle. A current erasure record is kept separately so that an older backup cannot restore a deleted account into service.

Your rights and choices

You may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or object to processing. Registered users can schedule account deletion directly at Delete account. You may contact us if you need faster deletion for a rights request or cannot use the self-service flow. You may withdraw consent at any time through ; this does not affect earlier lawful processing. You may also complain to your data-protection authority. Contact us through Contact to exercise your rights.
