ausatmen vs holen

to fetch / get

'Luft holen' (to take a breath) and 'ausatmen' (to exhale) are both part of breathing, but they describe opposite directions. With 'Luft holen', you draw air into your lungs, so you inhale. With 'ausatmen', the air goes back out of the lungs. This contrast is especially important in situations like sports, relaxation, or at the doctor's office: first 'Luft holen', then 'ausatmen'.

Visual example for holen

holen
