digitalization / digitization
'die Digitalisierung' (digitalization) and 'die Automatisierung' (automation) are often used in the same work and technology context. Even so, they do not mean the same thing. Digitalization means that digital technologies are introduced and used in work, everyday life, or society. Automation means that machines or programs carry out tasks independently. The words can be confused because digitalization often makes automation possible. But not every case of digitalization is automation: a digital form is digital, but it does not necessarily work by itself.
