'die Million' and 'die Billion' are both number words for very large quantities. The difference is enormous: one million is 1,000,000, while eine Billion is 1,000,000,000,000. So eine Billion is one million million, or one thousand Milliarden. Learners may confuse the words because they sound similar and because the English word 'billion' is used differently. In German, 'die Billion' is much larger than 'die Milliarde' and much larger than 'die Million'.
