'Liste' and 'Checkliste' both refer to an ordered collection of points. A 'Liste' is more general: it can contain names, things, dates, or ideas. A 'Checkliste' has a special purpose. You use it to check step by step whether tasks are done or whether nothing has been forgotten. The words can be confused because every checklist is also a list. But not every list is a checklist. If you are simply collecting something, say 'Liste'. If you are checking points and ticking them off, 'Checkliste' fits better.
