circa vs um
at / around / in order to
'um' and 'circa' can both show that a statement is only approximate. 'circa' stands directly with numbers, quantities, or times and clearly means 'approximately'. 'um' also has this meaning, especially in expressions like 'um die 100 Euro' (around 100 euros) or with approximate times. The words can be confused because both can stand with numbers. But 'um' is much broader as a preposition: 'um acht Uhr' can be an exact time, while 'circa acht Uhr' is always approximate.

Heute dauert die Reparatur circa eine Stunde.
Today the repair takes approximately one hour.
