Cobra vs Schlange
queue / snake
'die Schlange' and 'die Cobra' both refer to a reptile with a long, legless body. 'Schlange' is the general term for this group of animals. 'Cobra' is only a specific type of snake that is highly venomous and can spread the skin of its neck when in danger. So you can call every cobra a 'Schlange', but not every 'Schlange' is a cobra. The words can be confused if you are only thinking about the animal's shape. If the species is not important, you simply say 'Schlange'; if this exact venomous animal is meant, you say 'Cobra'.
