A specially set up and secured place for the permanent storage of waste, which is usually systematically piled up and covered there. Colloquially, people often also say 'Müllhalde' (dump).

The words can be confused because colloquially people also say 'Müllhalde' (dump). More precisely, however: for waste and official storage, 'Deponie' fits better; for piled-up industrial or mining material, 'Halde' is more appropriate.
