entblössen vs bedecken

to cover

'bedecken' and 'entblössen' are clear opposites. With 'bedecken', you put something over a surface so that it is completely or partly hidden. With 'entblössen', you make something visible because a covering is missing or removed. This can be meant literally with body parts, for example in a medical context. But it can also mean figuratively that something hidden or unpleasant becomes visible. In short: 'bedecken' hides or protects; 'entblössen' shows or exposes.

Visual example for bedecken
entblössen

Für die Untersuchung muss der Patient den Arm entblössen.

For the examination, the patient must bare his arm.

bedecken

Zum Schutz vor Staub bedeckt Paul den Computer mit einem Tuch.

To protect it from dust, Paul covers the computer with a cloth.
