Eurozone
The group of member states of the European Union that have adopted the euro as their official currency.

'Eurozone' is a compound word made up of 'Euro', the currency, and 'Zone', which refers to an area. So it literally means the 'area of the euro'.

To express that a country is part of the Eurozone, German often uses the verbs 'angehören' (to belong to) or 'beitreten' (to join). The phrase 'Mitglied der Eurozone sein' (to be a member of the Eurozone) is also common.

When talking about a place or state within the Eurozone, German uses the preposition 'in' with the dative. Movement into the zone is expressed with 'in die Eurozone' (accusative).
