fortan vs bisher
so far
'bisher' and 'fortan' point in opposite directions in time. 'bisher' looks back and means: up to now, something has been this way. 'fortan' looks forward and means: from now on, or from a certain point in time onward, something applies in the future. The words can be confused because both have a point in time as a boundary. But with 'bisher', the period ends now; with 'fortan', it begins now. 'fortan' also sounds more formal than 'von jetzt an' (from now on).
fortan
Nach der Besprechung arbeitet das Team fortan mit einem neuen Plan.
After the meeting, the team will work with a new plan from then on.
