Moving on foot; being in the process of walking. Often used to describe or distinguish from other postures.

'Gehend' (walking) is the present participle of the verb 'gehen' (to go/walk). It is used like an adjective to describe a person or thing that is currently in the process of walking.
Ein langsam gehender alter Mann blockierte den Weg.
A slowly walking old man was blocking the path.
As an adjective, 'gehend' (walking) can be expanded with adverbs or other information. These additions come directly before 'gehend'.
Der auf dem Bürgersteig gehende Mann trug einen Regenschirm.
The man walking on the sidewalk was carrying an umbrella.
Using the present participle as an adjective, e.g. 'der gehende Mann' (the walking man), is typical of written language. In spoken language, you would often use a relative clause instead, e.g. 'der Mann, der geht' (the man who is walking).
Die ins Kino gehenden Leute standen schon vor der Tür an.
The people going to the cinema were already lining up outside the door.

'gehen' and 'gehend' both have to do with movement on foot, but grammatically they do not play the same role. 'gehen' is a verb: it says what someone does. 'gehend' is an adjective or descriptive form: it describes a person or living being that is walking at that moment. Learners may confuse the words because they look similar. In normal everyday sentences, you usually need the verb 'gehen'. 'gehend' fits better when describing a state or posture, often in contrast to sitting or standing.
