Usage tips
Fixed expression
The word 'Hinblick' is used almost exclusively in the fixed expression 'im Hinblick auf' (with regard to). This prepositional phrase always takes the accusative.
EXAMPLE
Im Hinblick auf das schlechte Wetter sagen wir das Picknick ab.
In view of the bad weather, we are canceling the picnic.
Word composition
'Hinblick' is made up of 'hin' (movement toward something) and 'Blick' (looking/gaze). The literal meaning is therefore a 'look toward something', which makes the figurative meaning 'in relation to' understandable.
EXAMPLE
Wir müssen die Entscheidung im Hinblick auf die Zukunft treffen.
We have to make the decision with regard to the future.
Sentence position
When the expression 'Im Hinblick auf ...' (with regard to ...) stands at the beginning of a sentence, the conjugated verb follows directly afterward in position 2. So the sentence structure changes.
EXAMPLE
Im Hinblick auf seine Erfahrung bekommt er den Job.
In view of his experience, he gets the job.
Register
The expression 'im Hinblick auf' (with regard to) belongs to formal language. You find it mainly in written language, in official documents, news reports, or presentations.

Hinblick vs Blick
look / view
'Blick' and 'Hinblick' look similar, but they are used very differently. 'Blick' is directly connected with seeing: you look in a direction or take a quick look at something. 'Hinblick' is used almost only in the fixed expression 'im Hinblick auf' (with regard to / in view of). In that case, it does not mean seeing with your eyes, but rather 'in relation to' or 'when considering something'. Learners may confuse the words because both contain 'Blick'. As a practical rule: when it involves the eyes, it is usually 'Blick'. When talking about a topic or aspect, you say 'im Hinblick auf'.
Hinblick
Im Hinblick auf die Prüfung sollten wir den Termin nicht verschieben.
With regard to the exam, we should not postpone the date.
Blick
Ihr Blick fiel sofort auf den großen Stadtplan an der Wand.
Her gaze immediately fell on the large city map on the wall.
