Klatsch vs Schlag

blow / stroke

'der Schlag' and 'der Klatsch' can both mean a short strike or a short sound caused by an impact. 'der Schlag' usually sounds stronger and can happen with the hand, the fist, or an object. 'der Klatsch' is often a sharp or flat sound, for example when a wet hand hits the table, or a light slap with the flat of the hand. Learners may confuse the words because both have to do with hitting. Important: 'Klatsch' can also mean gossip about other people; in that meaning, it has nothing to do with 'Schlag'.
