Kollaps vs Schock

shock

'der Schock' and 'der Kollaps' can both occur in a medical context when the body suddenly stops functioning properly. 'Schock' means a very dangerous condition in which the circulatory system collapses and the organs do not get enough oxygen. 'Kollaps' more often means the visible physical collapse, often when someone faints or sinks down. The words can be confused because both have to do with circulatory problems and emergencies. Practically speaking: 'Kollaps' often describes what happens; 'Schock' describes a severe internal state of the body.
