A large, usually round or oval fruit with a hard shell and soft flesh that is used as a vegetable. The plant on which this fruit grows is also called this.

'der Kopf' and 'der Kürbis' can both mean the upper part of the body. 'der Kopf' is the normal and neutral word for this. 'der Kürbis' actually means a large fruit, but colloquially and jokingly it can also be used for a person's head. This often does not sound completely serious and can sometimes be slightly derogatory. In normal or polite situations, it is better to say 'Kopf'.
