Usage tips
Word composition
The word is made up of 'der Kurs' (course / price) and 'das Ziel' (goal). Since 'Kurs' can mean both a learning course and a stock market price, 'Kursziel' also has these two main meanings.
EXAMPLE
Der Analyst hat das Kursziel für die Aktie bestätigt.
The analyst confirmed the price target for the stock.
Context clue
You can recognize the meaning from the context. If it is about stocks, banks, or money, the financial target is meant. If it is about seminars, classes, or learning, the learning objective is meant.
EXAMPLE
Das Kursziel der Aktie wurde nach den guten Nachrichten angehoben.
The price target for the stock was raised after the good news.
Typical verbs (finance)
In a financial context, a Kursziel (price target) is often 'angehoben' (raised), 'gesenkt' (lowered), 'bestätigt' (confirmed), 'erreicht' (reached), or 'verfehlt' (missed).
EXAMPLE
Die Investmentbank senkte das Kursziel von 100 auf 80 Euro.
The investment bank lowered the price target from 100 to 80 euros.
Sentence structure (learning objective)
As a learning objective, it is often used in a construction with 'zu' + infinitive. The pattern is: 'Das Kursziel ist, … zu …' (The course objective is to …).
EXAMPLE
Das Kursziel ist, am Ende des Workshops eine eigene Webseite erstellen zu können.
The course objective is to be able to create your own website by the end of the workshop.
