'Bundesstraße' and 'Landesstraße' are both roads for traffic between places and regions. However, a 'Bundesstraße' belongs to the federal level and is usually more important in the hierarchy. A 'Landesstraße' is the responsibility of a federal state and normally ranks below a 'Bundesstraße', but above a district road. Learners may confuse the words because neither is an Autobahn and they can look similar. When you are talking about a major supraregional connection, 'Bundesstraße' is more precise. When the federal state is responsible for it, you say 'Landesstraße'.
