Both words refer to a public road outside built-up areas that connects different places. „Landstrasse“ (country road) mainly describes the location and the fact that it is outside a town, while „Schnellstrasse“ (expressway) also emphasizes that it is designed for fast traffic. A Schnellstrasse can therefore also be a Landstrasse, but not every Landstrasse is a Schnellstrasse.
