'die Diskriminierung' and 'die Menschenrechtsverletzung' can both describe unfair behavior toward people. 'Diskriminierung' especially means disadvantage based on characteristics such as origin, gender, religion, or age. 'Menschenrechtsverletzung' is broader and often stronger: it is about a violation of fundamental rights, for example freedom, safety, or protection from violence. The words can overlap, because severe discrimination can also be a human rights violation. Still, not every case of discrimination is automatically meant in that way. 'Diskriminierung' fits disadvantage in everyday life or at work, while 'Menschenrechtsverletzung' is more suitable for very fundamental or legal violations.
