Neid and Eifersucht are unpleasant feelings that can arise because of someone else's advantage or affection for another person. Neid is mainly directed at another person's possessions, qualities, or good fortune; Eifersucht is about the fear of losing an important relationship or someone's affection to a rival. Eifersucht is therefore the appropriate word when there is competition in a relationship; otherwise, Neid is usually the better choice.
Aus Neid ärgerte sich Tom über das neue Fahrrad seines Freundes.
Tom was annoyed about his friend's new bicycle out of envy.
