psychiatry
'die Psychiatrie' and 'die Neurologie' are both medical specialties, and both have to do with the brain or the nervous system. But their focus is different. Psychiatry treats mental illnesses and disorders, for example severe depression or other mental health conditions. Neurology treats diseases of the nervous system, such as problems with the brain, spinal cord, or nerves. Learners may confuse the words because some symptoms can seem similar. As a simple guide: for mental health conditions, you are more likely to say 'Psychiatrie'; for physical nerve diseases, 'Neurologie' is more likely.
