In mathematics, one of the four areas into which a plane is divided by a Cartesian coordinate system (x- and y-axis).

'der Sektor' and 'der Quadrant' can both describe part of an area, especially in mathematics or geometry. A sector is part of a circle that looks like a slice of cake and is bounded by two lines from the center. A quadrant is usually exactly one quarter: either a quarter of a circle or one of the four areas in a coordinate system. The words can be confused because both often have to do with circular areas or diagrams. When it is generally about a slice of a circle, 'Sektor' fits. When exactly four similar areas or the coordinate system are meant, 'Quadrant' fits.
