pipeline / pipe system
A system of interconnected pipes used to transport liquids or gases over a certain distance. This can be a large pipeline for oil or gas, or also the water pipe system in a building.

The word is made up of 'Rohr' (pipe) and 'Leitung' (line/conduit). So it literally describes a line made of pipes that transports something.

'die Leitung' and 'die Rohrleitung' can both mean something through which water, gas, or other substances are transported. But 'die Leitung' is broader: it can be a pipe, but also a cable for electricity or data. 'die Rohrleitung' is more specific and means a system of pipes, usually for liquids or gas. Learners may confuse the words because in everyday life people often simply say 'Leitung', for example when talking about water. If it should be clear that you really mean pipes, 'Rohrleitung' is more precise.
Die Rohrleitung unter der Straße muss vor dem Winter repariert werden.
