Sandstein vs Marmor

marble

'Marmor' and 'Sandstein' are both natural stones that you can see in buildings and sculptures. That is why they can easily be confused. 'Marmor' is hard, often smoothly polished, and frequently has beautiful veining. It often looks elegant and is used, for example, for statues, floors, or staircases. 'Sandstein' is made of compacted grains of sand and often looks grainier and more matte. It is frequently used for facades, walls, or older buildings. If a stone looks very smooth and shiny, 'Marmor' is more likely to fit. If it looks sandy, grainy, or soft on the surface, 'Sandstein' is more likely to fit.
