In this sense, 'das Bad' can sometimes be used as a short form for a swimming pool or spa, but in everyday language it very often means the bathroom at home. Learners can confuse the words because 'Bad' has several meanings. If you want to say clearly that you are going swimming, 'Schwimmbad' is usually more unambiguous.
