The side of an object, building, mountain, or geographical region that faces south. In the Northern Hemisphere, this side usually receives the most sunlight.

The word is composed of the cardinal direction 'Süd' (south) and the noun 'Seite' (side). This pattern works with all four cardinal directions: 'die Nordseite' (the north side), 'die Ostseite' (the east side), 'die Südseite' (the south side), and 'die Westseite' (the west side).
