triumphieren vs verlieren

to lose

'verlieren' and 'triumphieren' are opposites in games, competitions, or difficult situations. Someone who loses does not win and ends up on the weaker side. Someone who triumphs has a great success and often shows joy or pride about it. 'triumphieren' is stronger than simply 'gewinnen' (to win) and can sometimes sound arrogant. For a normal small victory, people usually say 'gewinnen'; 'triumphieren' fits a particularly clear or important success.
