'Ausbildung' and 'Umschulung' both mean that you learn professional knowledge and skills. 'Ausbildung' is the normal path to learning a profession, often at the beginning of one's working life. 'Umschulung' means that someone learns a new profession after already having had another profession, or because they can no longer work in their old profession or no longer want to. The words can easily be confused because 'Umschulung' is also a kind of 'Ausbildung'. When it is about the first or normal career path, 'Ausbildung' fits; when someone is switching to a new profession, 'Umschulung' is more precise.
