Usage tips
Special declension
When 'unser' gets an ending, the 'e' in the word stem can be dropped. Both forms are correct; the shortened form is more common in spoken language.
EXAMPLE
Wir gehen mit unserem Hund spazieren.
We go for a walk with our dog.
Use without a noun
'Unser' can also stand alone as a pronoun. It then gets a strong ending that indicates the gender and case of the noun being replaced.
EXAMPLE
Ihr habt euer Projekt schon fertig, aber unseres ist noch nicht ganz abgeschlossen.
You have already finished your project, but ours is not quite complete yet.
Who is 'we'?
'Unser' refers to a group that the speaking person belongs to. This group can be very small (e.g. a family) or very large (e.g. a company, a team, or an entire country).
EXAMPLE
Meine Frau und ich haben unser Haus renoviert.
My wife and I renovated our house.

unser vs sein
to be
'sein' and 'unser' are both important basic words, but they have different functions. 'sein' is a verb and, for example, describes a state or quality, or forms certain past tense forms. 'unser' is a possessive article and shows that something belongs to a group that includes the speaker. The words can be confused when you are still unsure about German function words. Pay attention: 'unser' usually stands before a noun, as in 'unser Haus' (our house); 'sein' is a verb or part of a verb form.
unser
In der Küche steht unser Kind auf einem kleinen Stuhl.
Our child is standing on a small stool in the kitchen.
