The word is built from the verb 'sich etwas vorstellen' (to imagine something) and the ending '-bar'. The ending '-bar' means '-able' or '-ible' in English and indicates that something is possible. So 'vorstellbar' literally means that one can imagine it.

Möglich and vorstellbar can both describe an uncertain outcome. Möglich more strongly suggests that this outcome can actually happen or be implemented; vorstellbar initially emphasizes only that one can picture it mentally. For a real option, möglich is therefore usually more suitable.
