A large, park-like area where mostly native wild animals are kept and shown to the public in spacious enclosures close to nature. Unlike a zoo, the focus is often on observing the animals in a more natural environment and on education.

'der Zoo' and 'der Wildpark' are both places where you can see animals. A zoo often has many different animal species from all over the world, including exotic animals such as elephants or monkeys. A wildlife park is usually larger and laid out in a more natural way; there you often see native wild animals such as roe deer, deer, or wild boar. The words can be confused because you visit animals in both places. When it is about many different and often exotic animals, 'Zoo' fits better. When it is about animals in a close-to-nature environment, 'Wildpark' is more precise.
