The word 'zeitig' (early, in good time) is derived directly from 'die Zeit' (time). It describes an action that takes place in such a way that you still have enough time, or even earlier than necessary.
Wir müssen morgen zeitig losfahren, um den Stau zu vermeiden.
We have to set off early tomorrow to avoid the traffic jam.
'Zeitig' (early, in good time) is often combined with verbs of movement or daily routine. Typical phrases are 'zeitig losfahren' (to leave early), 'zeitig ankommen' (to arrive in good time), 'zeitig aufwachen' (to wake up early), or 'zeitig ins Bett gehen' (to go to bed early).
Am Wochenende gehe ich gerne mal etwas später, unter der Woche aber immer zeitig ins Bett.

'spät' and 'zeitig' both describe whether a point in time is suitable. 'spät' means that something happens after the expected time, or that a period of time is already far advanced. 'zeitig' means that something happens early enough and there is still enough time left. The words can be confused because both occur in similar situations, for example with departure, planning, or preparation. 'zeitig' sounds a little less everyday than 'früh' or 'rechtzeitig', but it is especially clear when you want to say: not at the last moment.
Er geht am Abend zeitig schlafen, weil er am Montag früh aufstehen muss.
