Usage tips
Separable verb
'Abdichten' (to seal) is a separable verb made up of 'ab' and 'dichten' (to make watertight). In a main clause, 'ab' appears at the end of the sentence; in a subordinate clause, the verb remains together. In the infinitive with 'zu', 'zu' appears between the prefix and the stem.
EXAMPLE
Der Techniker dichtet das Fenster sorgfältig ab.
The technician carefully seals the window.
