Word formation
'Achtundzwanzig' (twenty-eight) consists of 'acht' (eight), 'und' (and), and 'zwanzig' (twenty): The ones come before the tens. The whole number is written as one word.
EXAMPLE
Das Buch kostet achtundzwanzig Euro.
The book costs twenty-eight euros.
Giving one's age
For stating someone's age, use the pattern 'achtundzwanzig Jahre alt sein' (to be twenty-eight years old). When it is clear that age is being discussed, 'Jahre alt' (years old) can be omitted.
EXAMPLE
Meine Schwester ist achtundzwanzig Jahre alt.
My sister is twenty-eight years old.

Giving a date
A date requires the ordinal number. After 'am' (on), use 'achtundzwanzigsten' (twenty-eighth), followed by the month.
EXAMPLE

Our language course starts on April twenty-eighth.
