Äh, ich weiß leider nicht, wie das funktioniert.
Uh, unfortunately I don't know how this works.
'Äh' (uh) can appear before a sentence or in the middle of one. It is not part of the actual sentence structure and therefore does not change the position of the verb.
Äh, morgen habe ich schon einen Termin.
Uh, I already have an appointment tomorrow.
Morgen habe ich, äh, schon einen Termin.
I already have, uh, an appointment tomorrow.
'Äh' (uh) often appears between an incorrect statement and the correction that immediately follows. You do not need to start the sentence again.
Wir treffen uns am Dienstag, äh, am Mittwoch.
We're meeting on Tuesday, uh, Wednesday.
When writing down a conversation, you can set an inserted 'äh' (uh) off from the rest of the sentence with commas. This keeps the sentence easy to read despite the interruption.
Ich habe den Schlüssel, äh, in meiner Jacke gelassen.
I left the key, uh, in my jacket.
