Usage tips
Word composition
'Aktienkurs' (stock price) is made up of 'die Aktie' (the share; plural 'Aktien') and 'der Kurs' (rate/price). The word 'Kurs' here does not mean 'course' (as in a language course), but rather 'Preis' (price) or 'Wechselkurs' (exchange rate) on the stock exchange.
EXAMPLE
Der Kurs der Aktie ist heute stabil geblieben.
The price of the stock remained stable today.
Typical verbs
In connection with stock prices, verbs of movement are often used. Typical ones are: 'der Aktienkurs steigt/fällt' (the stock price rises/falls), 'sinkt/klettert' (drops/climbs), or 'bricht ein' (collapses, in the case of a sharp drop).
EXAMPLE
Nach der schlechten Nachricht ist der Aktienkurs stark gefallen.
After the bad news, the stock price fell sharply.
Register: technical language
This word belongs to the technical language of finance and economics. You mainly hear and read it in the news, on the stock exchange, or in economic analyses.

Aktienkurs vs Kurs
course / rate
'der Kurs' and 'der Aktienkurs' can both mean the price on a market. 'der Kurs' is more general here: it can refer to stocks, currencies, or other securities. 'der Aktienkurs' is more specific and means only the price of a single share. The words can be confused because in stock market language people often just say 'Kurs'. If it is clear that stocks are being discussed, 'Kurs' can be enough. If you want to be precise, 'Aktienkurs' fits better.
