pointless activity
Excessive eagerness to take action, where actions are often carried out hastily and without a clear concept, merely to create the appearance of activity. The term usually has a negative connotation.

hectic rush
'die Hektik' and 'der Aktionismus' can both describe situations in which people act quickly and restlessly. 'Hektik' mainly means a state of nervous hurry and stress. It can simply arise when many things happen at once. 'Aktionismus', on the other hand, means that someone does an excessive amount, often without a good plan. The word usually sounds critical. So 'Hektik' tends to describe the atmosphere or feeling, while 'Aktionismus' describes rash behavior. When people only want to seem busy or act too quickly, 'Aktionismus' fits better.
