Word formation with '-isch'
The adjective 'albanisch' (Albanian) is formed from the country name 'Albanien' (Albania) with the ending '-isch'. This pattern is found with many nationalities, e.g., Italien → italienisch (Italy → Italian).
EXAMPLE
Er interessiert sich für die albanische Geschichte.
He is interested in Albanian history.
Common mistake: lowercase
Adjectives that are derived from country names and end in '-isch' are written in lowercase in German. Only when the language is meant as a noun is it capitalized: 'Er spricht Albanisch.' (He speaks Albanian.)
