'Antreffen' (to find / to encounter) is a separable verb. The prefix 'an-' is placed at the end of the sentence in a main clause.

This verb is more formal than the everyday word 'treffen' (to meet). It is often used in reports, official notices, or written language.

In the meaning of 'vorkommen' (to occur) or 'existieren' (to exist), 'antreffen' (to be found) is very often used in the passive or in the form 'sein + zu + infinitive'. These constructions emphasize the presence of a thing in a place.

to meet / to hit
Treffen and antreffen can both express meeting a person at a particular place. Treffen focuses more on the meeting itself, while antreffen emphasizes finding the person there. Treffen works well for an unexpected meeting; antreffen is often more precise when you mean finding someone at a specific place.
Auf dem Markt traf ich meine Nachbarin an.
