'der Speicher' and 'der Arbeitsspeicher' both have to do with storing digital data. 'der Speicher' is more general: it can be a hard drive, a USB stick, or another place for data, for example. 'der Arbeitsspeicher' is more specific and means a computer's RAM, that is, the memory the computer uses short-term while it is running. Learners may confuse the words because both occur in technology. As a simple guideline: for general space for data, you are more likely to say 'Speicher'; for RAM in a running computer, you say 'Arbeitsspeicher'.
