A conceited and self-important attitude in which a person considers themselves more important or better than others and also shows it.

'das Selbstbewusstsein' and 'die Arroganz' can be confused because both have to do with a strong presence. But 'Selbstbewusstsein' is usually positive: someone knows their strengths and believes they can do something. 'Arroganz' is negative: someone thinks they are better or more important than others and shows it. So the difference lies in how someone treats others. Self-confidence can be calm and respectful; arrogance comes across as conceited.
