An animal that belongs to the same biological species as another. The term is used almost exclusively for animals.

'Artgenosse' (conspecific) is a compound word made from 'die Art' (in the biological sense: species) and 'der Genosse' (comrade, companion). So it literally means 'companion of the same species.'
