Stift and Azubi can refer to the same person in vocational training. However, Stift is colloquial and partly outdated, whereas Azubi is a clear short form of Auszubildender or Auszubildende. In today’s workplace, Azubi is therefore usually more appropriate.
Die jungen Kollegen nennen den neuen Auszubildenden einfach Azubi.
The young colleagues simply call the new apprentice an Azubi.
