begehbar vs zugänglich

accessible

'zugänglich' and 'begehbar' can both mean that you can get into a place or move around there. 'zugänglich' is more general: a place is reachable or may be entered. 'begehbar' is more specific and means that you can enter and use a surface, path, or area on foot. With rooms or furniture, 'begehbar' also means that they are large enough to walk into, for example a 'begehbarer Kleiderschrank' (walk-in closet). The words can be confused when talking about places. As a simple guide: 'zugänglich' is more about the question: Can I get there or get inside? 'begehbar' is more about the question: Can I walk there safely or walk inside?
