In photography, the process in which light hits a light-sensitive medium, such as film or a digital sensor, in order to create an image.

'die Aufnahme' and 'die Belichtung' both belong to photography and can therefore be confused. 'die Aufnahme' means the photo itself or the process in which an image is saved. 'die Belichtung', on the other hand, means the light that reaches the sensor or film, and how bright or dark the photo becomes as a result. So a shot can be well or poorly exposed. When you are talking about the finished image, use 'Aufnahme'. When you are talking about the amount of light and the brightness, use 'Belichtung'.
