'der Anschlag' and 'der Bombenanschlag' both describe a violent attack. 'Anschlag' is the more general term. It does not yet say exactly what means were used. 'Bombenanschlag' is more specific and means that one or more bombs were detonated. Learners may confuse the words because every 'Bombenanschlag' is an 'Anschlag'. But not every 'Anschlag' is a 'Bombenanschlag'. If the bomb is important, 'Bombenanschlag' is more precise; otherwise, 'Anschlag' is often enough.
