'Das Boot' does not mean the English 'boot' (footwear). The German word for a boot is 'der Stiefel'. This mix-up is a very common mistake.
Für die Wanderung brauchst du feste Stiefel.
You need sturdy boots for the hike.
The idiom 'im selben Boot sitzen' (to be in the same boat) is a fixed expression. It is used to express that several people are in the same, usually difficult, situation.
Als das Projektbudget gekürzt wurde, saßen wir plötzlich alle im selben Boot.
When the project budget was cut, we suddenly all found ourselves in the same boat.
Pay attention to the case with prepositions: 'im Boot' (in the boat; dative) describes a position, while 'ins Boot' (into the boat; accusative) describes movement.
Die ganze Familie saß im Boot und genoss die Sonne.
The whole family was sitting in the boat and enjoying the sun.
Common verbs used with 'Boot' are 'Boot fahren' (to go boating), 'ein Boot rudern' (to row a boat), or 'ein Boot steuern' (to steer a boat).
Am Sonntag wollen wir auf dem See Boot fahren.
On Sunday we want to go boating on the lake.
ship
'das Schiff' and 'das Boot' are both vehicles on water. The most important difference is size and typical use. A ship is usually large and transports many people or a lot of goods, often over longer distances at sea, on rivers, or on large lakes. A boat is smaller and is often used for short trips, leisure, sports, or small groups. Learners may confuse the words because both travel on water. As a simple guide: ferries, cruise ships, and freighters are more likely to be 'Schiffe'; rowboats, sailboats, or small motorboats are more likely to be 'Boote'.

Im Sommer mieten wir ein kleines Boot für eine Fahrt über den See.
In summer, we rent a small boat for a trip across the lake.
Am Hafen wartet ein großes Schiff auf die Passagiere.
A large ship is waiting for the passengers at the harbor.
