He can work at a small club, in a fitness class, or with a professional team. 'der Bundestrainer' is much more specific: he is the head coach of a German national team. Learners may confuse the words because a Bundestrainer is also a Trainer. But not every Trainer is a Bundestrainer. If you are not talking about a German national team, 'Trainer' is usually the right word.
